Dan O’Connell of Dooneen, Kilcummin, Killarney, and with deep roots in Ardfert, Kerry, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, 26th June 2026. He left this world surrounded by his loving family, in the gentle care of his dedicated carers and the palliative care team who supported him through his final days.
A beloved husband to Nora, Dan was a devoted father to Ita, Theresa, Pat, Daniel, Carmel, Geraldine, Alan, Kevin, and Sharon. He will be greatly missed by his sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers John and Bill, his sister Bridget, extended family, former colleagues from Liebherr, neighbours, and many friends across the community. Dan was predeceased by his parents Delia and Daniel, and his brother Patrick.
Those who knew Dan will remember a man who lived a full life grounded in family, hard work, and quiet kindness. From his connections in Ardfert to his home in the Kilcummin area, he touched many lives in Kerry.
Funeral Details
Dan will repose at O’Shea’s Funeral Home, Killarney on Monday, 29th June from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. He will then be removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kilcummin, with Requiem Mass taking place on Tuesday morning at 11:00am, followed by burial in Old Kilcummin Cemetery. The Mass will be live streamed for those unable to attend in person. Family flowers only, with donations in lieu to the Community Specialist Palliative Care Team South Kerry if desired.
Dan’s passing leaves a deep void in his close-knit family and community, yet his memory will live on through the many lives he shaped with love and care.
