It is with deep sadness that we remember Brian Byrne of Coolkeragh, Listowel, County Kerry, who passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, 28th June 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Brian was 78 years old.
A proud Dubliner who made his home in Kerry, Brian was an extraordinary man whose determination knew no limits. Despite living with type 1 diabetes, he achieved remarkable sporting feats that inspired countless others, particularly young diabetics. His passion for running and charity work left a lasting impression on his community in Listowel and beyond.
Brian is predeceased by his daughter Jean and stepdaughter Jessie. He is survived by his wife Julie Byrne, his children Andrea, Maria, Ken and Joey, his stepchildren Sinead, Isabelle and CJ, along with their partners and his loving grandchildren Elliot, Eva, Dillon, Aaron, Lauren, Abigail, Lorcan, Ardan and Zara.
Funeral Details
Brian will repose at Finucane’s Funeral Home, Moyvane, on Tuesday evening from 5pm to 7pm, followed by a non-religious service which will be livestreamed. Cremation will take place in Shannon on Wednesday at 12 noon. Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, may be made to the Kerry Hospice Foundation. The family has invited attendees to join them for food and refreshments at Christys, The Well Bar, The Square, Listowel after the service.
Brian’s family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff from Tralee Hospital and community services for their dedicated care over the past four years.
