It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Willie Hughes, Longford Hill, Mountbellew, Galway. Willie departed this life peacefully on February 21st, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, under the wonderful care of the staff of Galway University Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Willie was predeceased by his parents Katie and Michael Hughes, his brothers Michael, John, Matt, Tom, and Jim. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Kathleen, daughters Annemarie, Karen, Helena, and Fionnuala, his sons Ciaran and Padraig, sons-in-law John, Damien, Cormac, and James, daughters-in-law Kathy and Sharon, and his 16 adored grandchildren, his brother Paddy, brothers-in-law Fr. Pat Killilea, SSCC (Hawaii) and Johnny Killilea, sister-in-law Helen, his nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors, and wide circle of friends.
Willie’s family and friends will deeply miss his love, kindness, and generosity. His legacy of devotion and care will continue to inspire and guide us.
Funeral Arrangement of Willie Hughes
Reposing at the Pastoral Centre (next to St. Mary’s Church, Mountbellew) on Sunday, February 23rd, from 6 pm to 8 pm, with removal to his residence afterwards. Funeral Mass will take place in St. Mary’s Church, Mountbellew, on Monday at 2 pm, followed by burial in New Cemetery, Tuam Road.
