Rip Dublin: Joseph (Joe) Smyth Obituary – Balbriggan, Dublin

It is with deep sadness that we remember Joseph (Joe) Smyth, who passed peacefully at his home in Balbriggan on Thursday, July 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Originally from Skerries, Joe had settled in The Gables, Market Green, Balbriggan, where he was known for his warm heart and steady presence.

Joe was the beloved husband of Jacinta. Together they raised their son Ronan and daughter Orla, and he was a proud and doting grandfather to Zoey, Oisín, Zara and Hannah. He is also remembered with love by his daughter-in-law Gemma and son-in-law Glenn. Joe was predeceased by his sister Joan and leaves behind his sisters Maureen, Bernadette and Patricia, along with sisters-in-law Monica and Olive, brothers-in-law Martin and Robert, as well as many nephews, nieces and a wide circle of friends.

Those who knew Joe will recall a man who cherished his family above all else. In the communities of Balbriggan and Skerries, he built lasting connections and offered quiet support to those around him. His gentle nature and family devotion touched many lives and will be remembered fondly in the days and years ahead.

Funeral Details

Joe will be reposing at his home on Sunday, July 5th from 5pm to 8pm. His Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, July 6th at 11am in SS Peter & Paul’s Church, Balbriggan, followed by cremation at Dardistown Crematorium. The family home will be private on the morning of the funeral. The service will be available via webstream for those unable to attend. Family flowers only, with donations if desired to the RNLI in Joe’s memory.

Joe’s family will carry his memory with them as they navigate this time of loss. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to unite those who knew him best.
